June 17

So... Sora Rich ran into our favorite Elder Adam Johnson of the Johnson and Shaw companionship! He sends a great big Hello to all his Vegas Friends!

Allo to all!!

Today marks the half way point in the MTC, and I am loving it!! The Romanian language is so beautiful, and I am seriously falling in love with it. The grammar and such is still hard, but it will come with time. I think I've finally got the weird R rolling down though haha. In the MTC, we have investigators (right now Sora Cutler and I are teaching Maria and Ion) and TRC (teaching resource center). In TRC, we get to teach a lesson to RM's from our mission!! We had our first one last Thursday, and it was super fun. Our favorite day though is Sunday. This week's speakers were Richard Heaton (one of the people in charge of running the MTC), and David Evans of the Seventy and his wife! They talked about prayer, work, and obedience. It was a good reminder to me that the keys to success in being a missionary (and in life) are these three things!! One of my favorite quotes was "Elder/Sister up!!" (As opposed to cowboy up... haha.) They also talked about the story in the BOM where Ammon, a missionary that went to teach to the Lamanites, ASTONISHED the people by his FAITHFULNESS. I know that we are capable of doing the same!

We are all very excited for next week, when the general authorities will be here to train all the new mission presidents and their wives. Only one elder in our branch made it into the choir that is singing for them, but we are super excited for him!! He had to change missions, because the place he was going to go didn't get enough visas for all the missionaries. He is now going to Italy, and he has been such a good example to me of going where the Lord wants us to go!

Funny story from this week.. we were studying in our classroom last night with Fratele Frandsen (one of our teachers). A moth flew into the room from outside, and all the sisters started freaking out!! F. Frandsen stopped talking about subjunctive verbs mid-sentence when he saw it, paused for a moment, and then PUNTED THE MOTH. RIGHT OUT OF THE AIR. ONTO ME. It landed on my desk, and we all just sat there in shock. He had told us that he was a soccer player growing up, but we didn't know he was that good!! It was way funny. Forever referring to it as "the moth incident" haha.

The only other excitement of this week has been moving to the newly renovated building on the other side of the MTC; our whole branch (Italy Rome, Italy Milan, and Romania/Moldova), is all together on the fourth floor! It's going to be a party for sure.

I love you all tons and hope you have a great week!!

Cu Drag,

Sora Rich

Second P-zi in the MTC!!!!!

Allo everyone!!

I hope this update finds you all well! Here we are expecting a huge wave of missionaries, about 600 this afternoon and almost as many next Wednesday, so it's a little crazy! In addition, they are doing Mission Presidency training for the next week, so there are a lot more international senior couples! It's really fun to talk to them and help them practice English haha. Weird to think we will be doing the same thing with members over in Romania in LESS THAN A MONTH AAAAAH. Also, the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve will ALL BE HERE during our last week in the MTC. They are selecting a few people to be in a small choir to sing for them when they are here!! Sora Green, Armstrong, and I are going to audition, pray that we make it! What an awesome opportunity to be so close to such incredible disciples of Christ. We are so stoked. On Sunday, we got to watch Elder Bednar's talk, "Characters of Christ". If you haven't watched it, I definitely suggest you check it out! It's one of those things you can watch over and over again and still learn a ton every single time.  My companion (Sora Cutler) and I have taught two investigators so far, George and Maria. They are both so awesome and we love them tons! Our biggest challenge in teaching them is finding the words to express simply what they need to understand, but we are learning more each and every day. We have memorized the Missionary Purpose and the first half of the 1st Vision in Romanian... we have made it a goal in our district to SYL (speak your language) with each other all the time, and I think it will really help!! The language is the hardest part, but it will definitely come the more we are immersed in it.

One of the biggest things I learned this week was to always look outward. I am trying to find at least three people every day that I can serve, in whatever small way I can. I've found that the more I get lost in the service of others, the more I realize what things in life are really important. Putting on my name tag every day and seeing Jesus Christ's name there reminds me that I am here to do whatever he would do; to serve as he would serve, love as he would love. It's very humbling to know that the Lord trusts us young kids with such important work.

Shoutout to the Griffeth clan for sending me a package with candy and drawings!! I love getting pictures from all of you and hearing how you're doing, so don't be afraid to send me emails/letters, especially through! It's super awesome. I love you all and hope you have a great week!!

Cu drag,

Sora Rich

Buna Ziua Everyone!!!!

(Heather here:  Thank you for your patience as I learn how to post Sora Rich's messages and photos!)

Yes, you heard correctly.
I survived my first seven days in the MTC! I have already learned so much here. The language is hard, but it is coming. Taking three years of French really was a blessing!! There are 11 of us going to the Romania/Moldova Mission on July 6, eight sisters and three elders. Our whole district is sisters, which makes class super fun. My companion is Sora Cutler and she is like my total opposite but super awesome. Our branch is made up of three missions: Italy Rome, Italy Milan, and Romania/Moldova;  We speak Romanian to them, and they speak Italian to us. It's great.
For the fireside on Sunday and the devotional last night, we had two INCREDIBLE speakers. Janice Kapp Perry, who wrote a bunch of songs for the hymn book and children's song book, and D. Todd Christofferson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. I seriously wish Sister Perry would adopt me because she is so adorable. When she was telling the story of how she and her husband met, he got up and kissed her right in the middle of a sentence!! And then proceeded to do a double fist pump to the air while the MTC presidency looked on in shock and the whole place exploded. So hilarious.
Everyone here says that if you can make it to Sunday, you can survive the MTC. Well, we made it and it was so good to not have to worry about shoving our heads full of Romanian for a couple seconds haha. Last night, Elder Christofferson spent his time speaking to us answering common questions from the mission field. It was amazing to be there and sing in the MTC choir!! Brother Eggett is awesome. I told my district that even if they don't sing, they have to go to choir practice because his stories are just the best.

This week has just been so incredible!! I've learned more in the last seven days than in the last seven months, probably haha. I love it here, and I'm excited to learn as much as I can now so I can best love and serve the people in Romania!!!

Sorry I didn't have time to write much this week, there's no time to waste in the MTC, even on P-day haha. I miss you all so much, know that I am thinking of you always!!!
